Malvern Special Needs Playgroup

Malvern Special Needs Playgroup (MSNP) runs twice weekly sessional care and respite for children with a range of disabilities and their families and employs a small number of professional staff who are supported by volunteers.

Reports to: Malvern Special Needs Playgroup Management Committee (of which the role is also a member)

Overview responsibility: Manage key financial aspects for the Playgroup

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Process payroll for 5 employees
  • Process and pay expenses
  • Process quarterly BAS payments
  • Prepare annual financial statements and quarterly reports for the Committee, and funding bodies
  • Manage bank accounts and investments
  • Additional tasks as required

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum a Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping or qualified Accountant (essential)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Eye for detail
  • Able to work in a team as well as independently
  • Experience using MYOB Business (preferable)
  • Experience using Google Drive (preferable)

Experience

Two years’ experience in a similar role (preferable)

Fortnightly Tasks [approx. 1 hr per fortnight]

  • Payroll for 5 employees through MYOB Business (MYOB), and online internet banking (Bendigo Bank)
  • Engage with President and Playgroup Coordinator regarding matters related to Playgroup
  • Pay expenses, as incurred

Quarterly Tasks [approx. 3 hr per quarter]

  • Reconcile Bank statements with information in MYOB
  • Reconcile and submit the Business Activity Statement (BAS)
  • Reconcile and pay Staff Superannuation to their nominated super funds
  • Submit and pay Staff Portable Long Service Leave
  • Complete financial pack for President
  • Support accounts administration regarding Playgroup billing matters

As Needed / Annual Reporting [approx. 20 hrs per year]

  • On and off boarding for employees (i.e. employee contracts, annual award increases, submissions to workcover and IT set up)
  • Review Playgroup cash flow, including term deposit
  • Issue tax compliance receipts for donations
  • Prepare financial statements for external review for presentation at AGM (October)
  • Complete annual reporting for ACNC
  • Complete reporting and acquittals as incurred for funding streams such as City of Stonnington, Department of Social Services
  • Attend MSNP Committee Meetings, and AGM
  • Roll end of financial year in MYOB, including STP finalisation
