FOUNDATIONS OF TREASURY MANAGEMENT
Module: The Business Environment of Treasury
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module, Participants will be able to:
- Identify and describe the key strategic frameworks to help describe an organisation’s strategy;
- Analyse the role that key corporate finance transactions can play in strategy execution;
- Explain the financial implications of alternative business strategies.
Module: Role of Treasury
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module, participants will be able to:
- Critically evaluate the key elements in how to structure a Treasury to support an organisation’s objectives;
- Make recommendations about the appropriate structure and governance framework;
- Effectively communicate the role and value of a Treasury in an organisation;
- Identify and critically evaluate ethical issues that may arise in a corporate treasury environment and be able to develop appropriate responses.
Module: Treasury Operations
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module, participants will be able to:
- Describe the key transactional processes within a Treasury;
- Identify key operational risk points in transactional processes;
- Identify and justify efficiency improvement opportunities in transactional processes; and
- Critically evaluate the role of credit risk policy in corporate treasury.
Module: Sources of Funding
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to:
- Identify and evaluate the various roles that debt plays in financing an enterprise;
- Understand the range of debt funding instruments available;
- Understand the key characteristics of debt instruments;
- Use these characteristics to assess and critically evaluate alternative sources of finance.
Module: Risk Management Principles
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this unit, participants will be able to:
- Understand the general principles of risk management
- Evaluate the key risk points in an organisation, particularly the relative importance of financial and operational risks
- Use relevant analytical tools to quantify an organisation’s risk profile
- Develop recommendations on an organisation’s overall risk profile, which will provide a basis for individual risk management applications
Module: Risk Management Tools and Techniques
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module, participants will be able to:
- Understand the range of derivative products available;
- Understand the key characteristics of different derivative products;
- Understand the key market practices and protocols in undertaking derivative transactions.
- Identify and evaluate the various roles that derivatives play in risk management;
Module: Cash Flow Analysis & Financial Planning
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module, participants will be able to:
- Analyse an organisation’s cash flow, and analyse the different dynamics of operating, investing, and financing cash flows;
- Prepare financial projections for an organisation which assess short, medium and longer term financial risks;
- Critically evaluate financial projections to assess their robustness and suitability for decision making;
- Prepare recommendations concerning the funding requirements and risks in the short, medium and longer term.
Simulation part 1, including an assessment task
Once you have completed the seven (7) Foundation modules of the Certificate in Corporate Treasury you are in a position to complete the Simulation part 1, as the Assistant Treasurer of ChemCo to bring the business into a healthier position.
UNIT TWO:
ADVANCED TREASURY MANAGEMENT
Module: Treasury Systems
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module, participants will be able to:
- Explain how technology can support treasury operations;
- Articulate the systems requirements of a Treasury operation;
- Identify and Evaluate alternative system solutions;
- Identify operational risk and control issues.
Module: Accounting and Taxation for Corporate Treasury
Module: Valuation Tools for the Financial Markets
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module, participants will be able to:
- Prepare a valuation of financial instruments commonly used by corporate Treasuries;
- Evaluate key risk factors for each instrument and explain why valuations may vary;
- Evaluate credit exposures generated by corporate treasury transactions.
Module: Foreign Exchange Risk Management – Applications
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module, participants will be able to:
- Identify and quantify foreign exchange risks faced by an organisation;
- Assess the effectiveness of alternative risk management responses to these risks;
- Prepare recommendations as to appropriate risk management strategies.
Module: Commodity Risk Management – Applications
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:
- Identify and quantify non financial (i.e. commodity, energy and other physical exposures) risks faced by an organisation able to be hedged by financial products;
- Assess the effectiveness of alternative risk management responses to these risks;
- Prepare recommendations as to appropriate risk management strategies.
Module: Debt Portfolio Management
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module, participants will be able to:
- Identify the key elements of a debt portfolio management strategy;
- Critically evaluate the range of debt funding instruments available for an organization;
- Prepare a recommended debt portfolio strategy that meets the organisation’s requirements;
- Prepare recommendation for managing Interest rate exposures of a debt portfolio;
- Manage the transactional requirements of raising debt
Module: Financial Strategy
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module, participants will be able to:
- Identify the key elements of organisational financial strategy;
- Critically evaluate alternative policy options re capital structure.
- Use key debt servicing metrics to analyse the financial risk profile of a business;
- Use the CAPM and WACC to estimate the return requirements of investors;
Simulation part 2, including an assessment task
Once you have completed the seven (7) advanced modules of the Certificate in Corporate Treasury you are in a position to complete the Simulation part 2
SIMULATION ASSESSMENT
A simulation assessment will follow the completion of these modules providing participants the opportunity to apply the skills acquired to a simulation presenting a corporate treasury problem.

FAQs
Module study hours
Please allocate at least 10-15 hours of study per module.
How long do I have to complete each Module/Unit
Each Unit and Module is available for 12 months from the time of registration. Please complete the modules within this time period. Access will be revoked once 12 months have lapsed.
Should you wish to request an extension, please submit a special consideration form should you meet the eligibility requirements providing your reasoning and documentation.
Access to the Certificate
Access is generally provided within 24 – 48 hours of payment being received by Macquarie University.
If you have not received access within 3 business days, from when payment was made please contact comms@actatreasury.com.au
Can I register for more than one module at a time?
You may register in as many modules as you like in consideration of the time to complete them. Please consider the module material will only be available for 6 months from the time of registering.
Is there a fee to assessment resubmission?
Fees include the first attempt at any set assessment tasks. The University may charge an additional fee for assessment resubmissions.
Do I need to register for the Foundations modules before taking the Advanced modules?
Technically, you may register for any module, at any time. However, if you are new to Corporate Treasury, it is recommended you complete Foundation modules before the Advanced. For those professionals who are seeking to supplement their knowledge, taking the Advanced module may be just what is needed.
Can I take the simulation without completing the modules?
Unfortunately, in order to receive university credit for the completed unit, all modules must be completed before registering for the simulation.

How do I apply to be a Certified Member of the ACTA?
Completion of both units (Unit One: Foundations of Treasury Management and Unit Two: Advanced Treasury Management) of the Certificate of Corporate Treasury will entitle Members (MCTA) of the ACTA to apply to become a Certified Member (CCTA), and to use the membership acronym CCTA.
To be recognised as a Certified Member, applicants must be a Member of the ACTA.
